This morning, playing as Msgt Redara, I ran into a problem

I had a full pack with bare gold rings on each finger

I picked up a huge emmie and applied it to one of the rings - the ring disappeared.

I assume that because I was not experienced enough to wear the resulting ring and my pack was full, the new ring was lost

Should I not have been warned that I would lose the ring if I continued?

Is this a bug?

Redara

There are dozens if not hundreds of places in the game where it would be prudent to do error checking but this is not done.

Where is has caused system instability or crashes, I have dug and found the problems and fixed them.

Alas there are not enough decades left in my life to go back and retro fit what today would seem to be good programming practice. Remember the genesis of this game as a practice game development for some budding programmers.

Hint :- Don't give Robin an rpot box if u dont have space in your inventory for the ratling potion. I learnt that a long time ago the hard way.

I agree with you, Loner, the game should check before it acts but I am afraid we must play with the cards we have been dealt. Some may call this a bug abd some may call it an undocumented feature.

If you see me in game I may have a spare ring if you need it.

Thanks Lord.

Understand that you have only so much time. Keep up the good work

I started programming in 1967 on Cobol and the old adage was - write your programs so that users can never do the wrong thing

It never kept me from screwing up

Cobol/CICS/DL1/DB2 - Those were the good old days

When a Unix box with 512kb RAM could run a whole lab with 20+ students

Kids these days - they would never believe it
